The
2010 Cars of the World will honour 5 milestones in motoring history.
Alfa
Rome - Bugatti - Ford Falcon - Mazda MX-5 - the Australian Touring
Car Championship
Alfa
Romeo
No
doubt the most importance milestone in 2010 is the Centenary of Alfa
Romeo. It is, however, the view of many that due to different companies
involved in the early days of this car manufacturer that the Centenary
of Alfa Romeo may still be a few years away.
We
have gone with the majority view that 2010 marks the Centenary and
will showcase what we hope will be a large display of Alfa Romeos
at Rochford Wines, representing the many eras of production car models.
Alfa
Romeo had tre
mendous
success in the Targa Florio and Mille Miglia rallies in Italy, and
it is hoped that we will have some fine examples of similar pre-war
vehicles on display at Rochford. Alfa Romeo, under the Scuderia Ferrari
and later Alfa Corse racing departments had huge successes in pre
and post war Grand Prix, Voitruette and later Formula One racing.
We
put the message out to all Alfa Romeo owners to help in providing
a mammoth Centenary display of the marque at Rochford Wines in October.
Bugatti
Art,
ingenuity, ahead of its ti
me
is what comes to mind for many Bugatti enthusiasts. More than any
other car in the history of the horseless carriage there would confidently
be more enthusiasts than owner of Bugatti cars!
Although
the car maker has not had a successful new racing car since the end
of WWII there is so much enthusiasm shown in peoples expressions when
the topic of this marque is raised.
2009
officially marked 100 years since the great Ettore Bugatti built his
first car, but in the history of time we believe the Centenary celebration
of this marque deserves to last another year!
Like
the Alfa Romeo the Rochford Wines Cavalcade to the Vines will allow
owners of Bugatti cars to stretch their legs on some of Victoria's
most beautiful windy country roads through the Dandenong Ranges and
Yarra Valley.
Ford
Falcon
The
Falcon model was la
unched
in the US market in the late 1950s, but it was 1960 that saw a new
era commence in Australia as this was the year the now best seller
was launched onto the Australian market for the first time.
The
2010 Cars of the World event will look back at 50 wonderful years
of this model and its development at Rochford Wines in October.
Mazda
MX-5
The
return of the
open
top sports car took place in 1989 with the launch of the Mazda MX-5
model. Now 21 years on the iconic model will be represented with all
three series, the Na, Nb and Nc on display at Cars of the World in
October.
The
display will include approximately 30 (hopefully more) MX-5s, predominately
from the MX-5 Car Club of Victoria.
Australian
Touring Car Championship
2010
marks 50
years since the establishment of the ATCC. During this period, since
1960 the championship has been through the eras of Appendix J, Group
C, Group A, and now the V8 Supercars.
We
have all witnessed many great touring car events at circuits across
the country including Sandown Park, Phillip Island, Calder Park, Winton
- and who can't write such a piece without mentioning the words Mount
Panorama.
The
Appendix
J, Group C and Group A eras saw a magnificent diversity of production
cars put on the motor racing track, and etched into the Australian
history books names such as Firth, Beechey, Jane, Moffatt, Brock,
Richards, Harvey, Bond, Goss, Bartlett and Perkins, just to name a
few.
We
hope to have a good representation of touring cars from across all
these eras at Rochford Wines in October - if you are thinking of bringing
yours, please note there is plenty of room to park the trailer in
the venue.
