Celebrating the 75 Years since the Official Opening of the Great Ocean Road on 26 November 1932 with a 4 Day Tour .

The 75 year celebrations has now concluded. We have included a short story below & an extensive page of photo galleries, including pictures taken by participants and local tourism authorities.

Event background

Cars of the World has been approached by Great Ocean Road Marketing to re-create the Official Opening cavalcade, which will form a major tribute as part of the 75 celebrations of the opening of the World's Largest War Memorial.

The Victorian Automotive Chamber of Commerce (VACC) is Naming Rights Sponsor. This is a wonderful association of the state's peak Automotive body jbecoming a major sponsor of Retina Australia Victoria's fundraising activities.

As well as commenorating the returned World War 1 soldiers who worked tirelessly to built this great landmark, the event will honour Howard Hitchcock (then Myor of Geelong) who put his all into creating the dream and impossible task become a reality. Each day of the tour will include numerous community celebrations and memorial unveilings.

Beginning Sunday 25 November, 2007 some 40 vehicles, which represent motoring up to 1932 will commence a four day celebration tour of the Great Ocean Road. On the way tour participants will be part of mass celebrations at many of the road's seaside townships, and various points of national significance.

For those interested in taking part in this unrepeatable, once-in-a-lifetime event the first piece of selection criteria is that your car is to have been built up to 1932.
