To mark the occasion the National Wool Museum, in conjunction with Geelong Otway Tourism, is mounting a major interactive, multimedia exhibition. Opening on November 14, The Great Ocean Road: from bush track to national icon celebrates the engineering feat and the achievements of the returned soldiers in constructing what has become an Australian icon. The exhibition explains how basic tools and horse-drawn ploughs were used to create this extraordinary road which is a lasting legacy to those men as well as their fallen comrades. It is often forgotten that The Great Ocean Road is the world’s largest War Memorial. The Great Ocean Road: from bush track to national icon also highlights the road’s modern day attraction to tourists and locals alike. It shows how over the decades we have holidayed along the shores of the ocean and taken in some of the world’s best views. The exhibition also reveals contemporary artistic and literary interpretations of the road and the people who live along it. The exhibition features a vast array of original artifacts, rare films and photos, reconstructions, artworks and much more. With a special activity trails for kids it is an ideal experience for the whole family. On show from14 November 2007 to 9 March 2008. The
National Wool Museum is located at 26 Moorabool Street, Geelong.
